Overview of the new widget calendar !

In my sidebar, you can discover the allure of the new little calendar, and its new functions ;)

To always make you have patience. Unfortunately - for those which wait impatiently - it will be necessary for you to wait still a little before having the same thing on your blog.

Why ?

Quite simply because the work undertaken in Events Calendar calls into question ALL the structure of the plugin. And how in the current state it is not possible for me to provide only the widget calendar whereas the administrations part of the recurring events is in waste lands!

Small contest: the first which gives me the list of all the new functionalities included in the small calendar of my sidebar will be entitled to a secrecy!  ;)

Otherwise you can just give me your opinion …
A tip: empty your browser cache if the little calendar is wrong ..

I love your plugin and use it on several sites. Problem is that on a few of them the next/previous months links are not working/visible. I thought it might be some problem with my custom themes, but it is also not working on a default install. I have read the comments discussing this issue with others so I am hoping the new version addresses this issue. I also have need for recurring events, any chance of that in the new version? Thanks for any help.

  2. Heiremle 21 octobre 2008 à 2:36 Lier au commentaire

Hello Lori, Indeed it is a problem increasingly common. As that Events Calendar gaining success, the odds are that the number of people experiencing your problems is growing.

    But I think I found a radical solution !!
Who is being tested now and is promising.

Meanwhile, like other users, if you will at least provide a link to your site, perhaps I could try to locate where is your problem.

Still pending solutions, you can tell me what you think of new features in the little calendar in my sidebar ;)

    Hi,
Absolutely great work, it looks promising :=)
I have tried some other calendars that already have a possibility to create recurring events, but there have usually been a big problem: if you can make an event that recurs every thursday, you can’t change for example a location just for one of those days. It would be nice, if there will a possibility to make a choice to “Save only this time” or “Save all”…

Hi Heirem, First off let me thank you for the great service you are providing. I do love the little widget calendar, and plan on using it in a new site I am putting together.

I do have a problem very similar to Lori’s it seems. It’s a custom theme, and I read in many of the forum posts to try and switch to another base theme to see if that fixed it . The ‘classic’ wp theme did not help.

The site is under construction so please forgive that : http://new.tylerjameslee.com/wp/event-calendar/ but here is my calendar. As you can see, if you go backwards (previous) months then the calendar shows up fine… but if you go forwards to november we get a blank page.

You can see I am using the event list function in the sidebar and have about 1o or 11 events set up for November … so I wonder if that is the issue since it is the only month with events?

    – Thanks — Tyler Lee

Wow… It looks great, can’t hardly wait the final version.

    I’ll be connected.

Hello Jaska, what you ask is managing exceptions in the recurrence of events. It is not yet scheduled. Maybe in a future version. But the world did not happen in one day is not it? ;)

  7. Heiremle 22 octobre 2008 à 21:19 Lier au commentaire

Hello Tyler Lee, I invite you to read the comments that I have just leave in answer to Ben (you must translate sorry) and Alexander. You are completely concerned too! ;)

  9. Tyler Leele 23 octobre 2008 à 4:30 Lier au commentaire

Thanks Heirem, I’m gonna add it to my list… since I just now realized the issue is only in Google Chrome… which surprises me since it normally renders identically to FF… its going on a back burner.

However, thanks for your quick response, it’s going to help me troubleshoot my CSS a ton when I get back into the calendar.
    Thanks!

    Bonjour Heirem

I have a question regarding the visibility of an future event.
If I plan something ahead of time, I want the sidebar calendar date to change in another colour. is that possible.
    For example:
I want to plan something on the 4th of november:
Then the calendar should look like:
    Current date: White colour, bold
Future event date Blue colour, bold
    Other (empty)dates:grey colour, normal font

    Is this possible
    Regardz,
    Joop

Heirem thanks so much for this plugin it is exactly what I need. The amount of time and effort you must put into this is amazing. Your efforts are truly appreciated.

I’m working on a page for a local nonprofit organization that serves the homeless. I’ve got the plugin installed and all working nicely, except I have one issue I’m trying to solve. I’m using list view in the sidebar which is great, but I would like listing for each event to also be a link to the page specified when adding the event. Is there any way to make the events in the list view also linked?

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Justin

  13. Heiremle 26 octobre 2008 à 21:36 Lier au commentaire

Bonsoir Joop, assign colors to informations is a work on the CSS rules. But choose specific colors for future events involves work on the code. Everything is possible. It all depends on your knowledge of PHP and CSS ;)

  14. Heiremle 26 octobre 2008 à 21:48 Lier au commentaire

Hello Justin, thank you very much. I see what you mean. The best method is to trigger the display of the thickbox when you click on an event in the list. In this tickbox you will have access to specific links of the event. To display this tickbox, with the current version, it is necessary to make a change in the code. This change I have already provided to Alexander in these comments. You have just apply it ;)

    Salut Heirem,

    Hi!

First of all, sorry but i didn’t speak french, so i must congatrulate all of you that have made this wonderful plugin in english… Thanks a lot !

I’m just losing my head because the css’s are playing with me… The plugin works great but the widget-calendar it’s a bit faulty… The days with events are shown perfectly, but the days without event just has the same color as the background, so the user don’t see anything… Just the same happens with the month’s names… Any cell with the light blue background color, save the ones with a day that has an event…

Also, i don’t get how to translate the calendar to spanish, i don’t know what to make with the two translation files…

Thanks a lot in advance and sorry for disturbing all of you with this problems…

Oh yes, i use PHP 4.3.9 and Wordpress 2.6.2…

  26. Heiremle 29 octobre 2008 à 15:48 Lier au commentaire

Hello Ed, the display of the list of events in the sidebar is done by the function ‘displayEventList ()’, in the file ec_calendar.class.php. The changes that you want to do must be in the loop ‘foreach’. But I do not see the utility since the start date and time is indicated in the tooltip.

  28. Heiremle 29 octobre 2008 à 16:02 Lier au commentaire

Hello Joop, CSS rules normally dedicated to Events Calendar must be entered in the file ‘events-calendar.css’ which is in the directory ‘css’ of the plugin. But things are never simple. To help you, I advise you to use the Firefox pluging : Web Developer. With its options it provided, among others, the CSS rules associated with each object in a page, regardless of the file where they are.

  29. Heiremle 29 octobre 2008 à 16:14 Lier au commentaire

Hello Brian, set the first day of the week is an option of Wordpress itself. Events Calendar takes it into account. Retrieving data iCal is in our ToDo list ;) But we must not delude ourselves: we can never compete with Google. However, each at the possibility of adapting Events Calendar to its own needs, in complete independence.

    Thank you the help!

  35. Heiremle 31 octobre 2008 à 12:13 Lier au commentaire

Hello Xavi, I do not understand your problem with translations in the calendar. Events-Calendar is based on the langage definition in Wordpress. So if your blog is in the right language, Events Calendar should be too ;)

  36. Heiremle 31 octobre 2008 à 12:17 Lier au commentaire

Hello M., It is a good idea which, I think, has never been sought. It is normal that you do not find it because this feature is not yet implemented in the plugin. It will be when, in a next version, it will be possible to produce a post containing a list of events ;)

I just wanted to provide you a little bit more information regarding the bug that “removes the blank spaces” between the words in the LOCATION field. It seems that each time the plug-in is reactivated it strips out the spaces.

Heirem. Thanks for this great tool. Is there a way to make the entries in the calendar and list be links to a page containing the details (like a post page)? We are trying to squeeze so much detail into the pop-up window. I’d rather see an extract in the hover window and full details in a page.

Thank you so very much for your calendar! I’d been using one for years and then when I upgraded WordPress, it didn’t work. So I’ve been without one for a while. I only know enough php to be dangerous. I have the small calendar in my sidebar, but would like to add something like ‘Upcoming Events’ (with the next 5 events or maybe the events for the next 30 days or something) to my other sidebar. I tried adding into a text widget, but nothing shows up. Can you tell me what I’m missing? Thank you so much! Cheers!

  43. Heiremle 7 novembre 2008 à 14:13 Lier au commentaire

Hello Edward, I have already provided a solution, waiting the new version, in a commentary. This is in the list, at a click on an event, to show the tickbox, with all the details associated with the event. You must do a little research in the comments ;)

  44. Heiremle 7 novembre 2008 à 14:18 Lier au commentaire

Dear Neil, my problem, about this bug, is that I can not reproduce at all! There was the site of Gina, but I resolved the issue with the latest version. I would need access to your FTP site to see what it is ;)

  45. Heiremle 7 novembre 2008 à 14:28 Lier au commentaire

Hello Peter, I am just now studying alternative solutions to the thickbox! But this is not simple at all.

  46. Heiremle 7 novembre 2008 à 14:28 Lier au commentaire

Hello James, This is not normal. All entries to the database are managing within Wordpress. So logically apostrophes should not be the sources of problems. But as you mentioned me, I will consider bringing it in me.

I will also look at sites that I know and who also face problems of navigation in the calendar.

  47. Heiremle 7 novembre 2008 à 15:10 Lier au commentaire

Hello Penny, the best way to display the upcoming events is to choose the events list widget . But what you may have missed is that it is not possible, for the moment, to display the two widgets at the same time, whatever the number of sidebar. That is one possibility that should normally come with the next version.

  48. Jamesle 7 novembre 2008 à 20:40 Lier au commentaire

The new features of the widget calendar are exactly what I am looking for but for the large calendar as well. I love the ability to select month/year and jump to it instead of keep clicking previous, previous.. I think this would be a great addition to the large event calendar as well. keep up the good work!

  49. Rachelle 10 novembre 2008 à 1:40 Lier au commentaire

    Hi Heirem,

Thanks for your contribution to this widget, it is very useful! I was wondering if you could tell me about the “Visibility Level” when posting an event. I was hoping to be able to set the visibility level to administrator to prevent it from displaying on the [[EventsCalendarLarge]] version, but keep the event displayed on the administrator’s calendar. It isn’t working this way now and I was wondering if it is supposed to? If it is broken, can you tell me what adjustment I can make to fix it?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!

  50. Stewartle 11 novembre 2008 à 7:38 Lier au commentaire

I’m not sure if this thread is the right place, but I would like to solicit some ideas. I am working on a site for the local bluegrass music society. For the events calendar, I would like to have subscribers (including bands, promoters, etc.) be able to add events to the calendar. However, it seems that if I give them access through the administrative interface, they can edit and delete all events, whether their own or someone else’s. I don’t want anyone who registers to be able to delete others’ events, whether maliciously or just accidentally.

One possibility would be to add an owner property to the event and check that in the edit/delete code. I decided not to go that route at the moment, because it seemed more intimidating; because it would involve database changes, I’m worried it would make it harder to integrate it with future releases of the plugin.

The other approach that I am working on currently is to separate the add event form from the admin code and make a shortcode that allows it to be embedded into a front end page. This would mean that subscribers would be able to add events to the calendar but not to edit or delete them (even their own). That’s not ideal but a limitation I’m willing to live with.

I’ve currently hacked this into a more or less working state but I still need to do a bit more work to separate the javascript - right now, the sidebar widget calendar displays in the admin page style when on the page that I’ve put the Add Event form on. That is, instead of just highlighting the dates that have events, it shows the event titles and red X’s to delete them.

So my questions are, does this seem like a sensible way to go about it? Is this something others would be interested in also? Or would it make more sense to go with a full ownership based approach?

  51. Sunaryo Hadile 11 novembre 2008 à 8:37 Lier au commentaire

    Thank you for your plugin.

It’s work best at my photoblog site http://photography.web.id

Just found a bit slack on thickbox. Need a little tuning in html (some div stuffs) of
    “[blog_domain]/?EC_view=day&EC_month=11&EC_day=28&EC_year=2008&”

  52. Heiremle 11 novembre 2008 à 14:46 Lier au commentaire

Hello James, thank you for this little useful reminder. The navigation in the little widget calendar is actually much more convenient, we agree. I just apply the same principle to the administration calendar, in the dashboard. But I forgot the large calendar ;)

As well to a list of events in a post. I’m working on it. And the idea of being able to browse a list of events is rather attractive too. That this list is widget or a post. No?

  53. Heiremle 11 novembre 2008 à 15:00 Lier au commentaire

Hello Rachel, It’s a good question! But I do not see where the problem lies. Accessibility is inherent to Wordpress. The rules are simple.
    - If you have access to Events-Calendar management, in the dashboard, is that you have the role and rights to create an event. And therefore also an article associated with an event.
    - If you can write an article or a page then it is normal to also include a calzndar.
I guess this can sometimes be tricky. But entering a finer granularity rights will complicate the use of the plugin (not to mention the difficulty of all this for the developer).

It is an interesting debate. But I propose to repport it later. When the version on which I work will be stabilized. Because this version will bring a lot of important news. Include more opportunities could become excessive as a first step in my view.

  54. Heiremle 11 novembre 2008 à 15:09 Lier au commentaire

Hello Sunaryo Hadi, very nice design !! Ok I saw. The content of the tickbox is generated, in the current version, by the function display ($ d) of the class EC_day in the file ec_day.class.php. You must search in this file to resolve your little problem. And change it if necessary. Let me therefore share your changes if you feel is of general application ;)

  55. Heiremle 11 novembre 2008 à 17:08 Lier au commentaire

Hello Stewart, Your ideas are interesting. Because they are ideas that I cherished myself ;) But you are all the same the first with me to speak about it.

To allow a user authorized to create an event without passing by the console of administration is an interesting function. But it runs up against the structure itself of Wordpress. It should not be forgotten that Wordpress is before a whole engine of blogs and not for make CMS. Even if it is possible to build a CMS with Wordpress.

In the immediate, the best solution would be ownership, considering work to be undertaken. But only if your need is pressing. Because this functionality will be easier to consider with the structure of the next version. We could study that together if you wish it.

I thought in fact to include a button in the sidebar which makes it possible to reveal a form for creation of events. But that poses several problems. Problems of safety first of all. And then of management of events. To solve them it would be necessary to create a complete module and not only one function. It is not simple. And not currently in my ToDo List…

  56. Stewartle 12 novembre 2008 à 3:48 Lier au commentaire

Thank you for the response, Heirem. I think I am going to continue on the path I’m on for now. Once the site goes live and people start adding events, I’ll see how many complaints I get about not being able to edit…

One thing I forgot to mention - the page on which I have the Add Event form is restricted, using the Role Scoper plugin, to only be visible to logged in users. Otherwise anyone could spam the calendar. Another approach to this would be to have events moderated, so they don’t appear on the public calendar until an editor has approved them.

    Hello Heirem

First of all I’d like to thank you for your excellent plug-in :)
I intend to make use of it in a future version of the website I manage (http://www.helvetia-basel.ch/).

Besides the regular site, I recently started up a protected test-site to try out themes and plug-ins and noticed something when using some performance-measuring tools.

Recently I migrated the index.php from the wordpress installation folder to the root to clean up my URL. But as a result your plug-in (both 6.5.2.1 and 6.5.2a) try to add the “thickbox.css” at the wrong place since your plug-in uses the site’s url and not the wordpress installation directory as reference.

I tracked the issue down to two lines in 6.5.2.1:

    line 29:
    define('EVENTSCALENDARURL', get_option('siteurl').'/wp-content/plugins/events-calendar');

    line 121:
    <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="/wp-includes/js/thickbox/thickbox.css" />

and fixed it by replacing ’siteurl’ with ‘wpurl’:

    line 29:
    define('EVENTSCALENDARURL', get_option('wpurl').'/wp-content/plugins/events-calendar');

    line 121:
    <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="/wp-includes/js/thickbox/thickbox.css" />

    Best Wishes from Switzerland.

  61. Helvetia-Baselle 17 novembre 2008 à 13:33 Lier au commentaire

Argh… stupid me messed up the code for line 121 :-/

    siteurl:

    wpurl:
    <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="/wp-includes/js/thickbox/thickbox.css" />

    Sorry about that o_O

  62. Helvetia-Baselle 17 novembre 2008 à 13:37 Lier au commentaire

Figured it out… using the ‘code’ tags won’t stop php commands from executing… thus any code example will be querried by your site :-(

Once you read the comments please delete my two fumbling ones :p

It’s still an interesting comment, plunged me into a great reflection. Effectively, restrict access to Events-Calendar in the dashboard is a good idea. This could be a new option. I first said myself that the plugin options could be available through an access in the général options of Wordpress.

And then I remembered a change that I’m working. And your proposal reinforces what was just a hunch. I can not tell you more yet. But the basic idea is that a user, with limited rights, could access the consultation of the calendar in the dashboard, but not be able to create an event or change one. What do you think about that ?

For this kind of comment that I like coming read and respond to your comments. They are a source of progress for me.

    Hello Cabotine,
    When will it be finished?
    I hope never.
When I died I hope someone will follow. And even before that.
But you certainly talk about the version which I work. So I would say that it will be finished when I finished, and that beta testers will no longer find anomalies. You should read my last article ;)

    Tag associated with an event?
At one event or a post generated by an event?
I recall once again that the posts, even published, can be changed ;)

    A javascript free version?
The interests of the little calendar that you can see in the sidebar are possible thanks to Javascript utlisation ;) I know that for many functions it is possible to do without Javascript. With CSS, for example. But I acknowledge that I am not talented enough to contemplate. Not yet. So maybe later. I recognize that this would solve a lot of conflicts between plugins.

Dear Helvetia-Basel, this is what I call an excellent information and proposal. Thank you for that advice. It will solve some problems that people face in similar situations.

If I find time I will apply this change to the current version. But the next’ll certainly incorporate it.

No, I do not want to remove your comments, they make excellent progress :) If you agree of course.

I would be curious to know the tools you use to measure performance. If you wish me know, I would be grateful. On the other hand, it is uncommon to pass by a person familiar with both PHP and the intricacies of Wordpress. If you wish, you can join a little of your efforts too a small team that we are with Luke Howell. Write me directly to the email that is in the foot of this page, please.

How do I change the height/width of the widget calendar? Mine seems to be out of balance- not tall enough for width. Thank you for your work with this plug-in. The calendar will be the most used tool on our site.

  67. Heiremle 18 novembre 2008 à 22:47 Lier au commentaire

Hello Amysdaddy, you have different methods at your disposal:
1-Change the number of characters in the names the weekdays, in the plugin options.
2-Change font and / or their sizes, in ‘events-calendar.css’.
3-Changing the size of cells of the calendar, still in ‘events-calendar.css.
    Good work!
    Best regards

Many thanks, Heirem. Although not a programmer, I do a lot of free web work for groups and I know that getting paid would be nice, but there is a certain satisfaction in helping others in their work as well. Have a great week.

    Heirem,

I’m not sure that I understand this:

But the basic idea is that a user, with limited rights, could access the consultation of the calendar in the dashboard, but not be able to create an event or change one.

What is the benefit of the dashboard view of the calendar if you can’t create or edit events? Isn’t that basically the same as the large calendar view?

My thinking is somewhat the reverse - I want to give users access to add events (and edit their own) without going through the dashboard at all, since the dashboard is not very friendly for a casual user.

  70. Heiremle 23 novembre 2008 à 21:58 Lier au commentaire

Dear Stewart, you must repeat the course of our conversations to understand, I think. So first read again your comments and my answers ;)

In my last comment I just supported your idea of restricting access to the link “Add Event”.

The idea of allowing the addition of an event without going through the administration console is a good idea. But it faces problems functional and safety. In any case, to allow the addition of an event from the blog will require that the person was identified before. With a login and password. So in these conditions, why not going in the administration console to create an event ? No?
    Best regards

  71. Stewartle 25 novembre 2008 à 22:16 Lier au commentaire

    Heirem,

My reasoning for wanting a front-end form for adding events is that I would like for local bands and concert promoters, some of whom may not be very knowledgeable about computers in general or WordPress in particular, to be able to add events without leaving the relative familiarity of the front-end look and feel. Basically I would like to make it as easy to add an event as to leave a comment. (Our site only allows logged-in users to leave comments.)

A dashboard interface that did allow adding events, but not editing existing events, would offer the same functionality as my hacked-up version, just slightly less convenient for users unfamiliar with the dashboard.

As you rightly noted earlier, this is an area where there is some mismatch between traditional WordPress uses and people (like me) who are trying to use it as a CMS. I think there will continue to be more and more people wanting to expose what is now considered “back-end” functionality in a more user-friendly manner to non-administrative users.

  72. Heiremle 26 novembre 2008 à 1:43 Lier au commentaire

    Dear Stewart,
You made me much reflect with your messages! :)
I understand the need very well that you to express.
At the end of my reflexion here are what I obtain:
    - I think that you are right: this function is likely to become increasingly required.
    - It is obviously that this improvement could not be considered for the next version.
    - On the other hand, to have it at the head, will oblige me to direct the internal structure of Events-Calendar, on which I currently work. What will in the future make it possible to insert more easily of the whole modules of codes, like kinds of plugins, into the plugin! And to be able to conceive the development of creation of events in the front end of a blog. Why not !
    Best Regards

  73. Stewartle 26 novembre 2008 à 21:49 Lier au commentaire

    Heirem,

As long as I’m giving you things to think about… ;-)

Another thing I’ve been thinking about in terms of longer-term enhancements (that would also affect the internal structure) is filtering of the calendar display. One way to filter would be by event type. For my site, some types of events might be concerts, festivals, and jam sessions. Somebody who wants to go out and play music might only want to see the jams. The allowed choices for event type would have to be defined in the plugin options panel for this to be useful.

There was a comment over at Luke Howell’s site asking for the ability to have two event calendars on one site. Filtering by event type might solve that need; instead of a calendar with a user interface to select the filtering, you could have two displays of the calendar, each filtered to a specific set of events.

I’m also interested in the idea of filtering by location, but that gets a little trickier to structure. For my purposes, the location would ideally be broken down into venue, city, and region (group of nearby cities). For other users it might make sense to include state or country, or on the other hand, it might be more constrained; a university might have a campuswide calendar where the location is only a building name. Like event types, this would have to be configurable in the plugin options to be useful.

However, some of these (venue, city) don’t readily lend themselves to a dropdown list. I could configure a list of regions that apply to our area, and someone whose website serves multiple states or countries could likely make a list of those. Here’s an example of a sister organization of ours that has tried to make a very highly filterable calendar: http://www.cbaontheweb.org/calendar/index.aspx . From what they have in their city dropdowns, it looks like they are just listing any text that anyone has entered into the city field for any event, as evidenced by the fact that the ‘City’ dropdown has both ‘San Martin’ and ‘San Martin, CA (near Gilroy)’.

Anyway, I’m sorry to be so longwinded, but I wanted to throw out some ideas while you are considering redesigning the internal structure.

  74. Heiremle 1 décembre 2008 à 22:07 Lier au commentaire

    Hello again Stewart ;)

We are both on the same wavelength !
These feature which I think also. And it is in the logic of a successful events manager.

This is not the internal management of one or multiple filters that I pose problems. It is in how to present it in the current calendars. It is a usability problem which I faced.

Look at the little calendar in my sidebar. Where do you want to place a button or some other handles of placing a filter? I am trying to work on the categories of events. What will it be possible to filter events by categories. We agree on this point. But how to handle these filters in the interface calendars? I still ask myself the question.

If you have any ideas, don’t hesitate to tell me ! ;)

With Event Calendar installed my First Gallery Image pop-up 2 images and descriptions, then works correctly. Is there something I can do to stop this first initial conflict.

please email me for the url, as I per fer not to post this site … as its for a local enforcement site.

HI, and first at all, thanks for your plugin it’s just for me. I’ll ask you for a little support. I think it could be a bug. When I make an entry with you need to login to see it I press in the day ont the calendar sidebar and, in the mini-window do not appear nothing. I’ll send you an e-amil with an user to see it. I dont know if its a bug or other thing (upgrading to 2.7). Thanks for those support (other people doesnt offer support and, what are you doing are great for people who arent too good with some things ^^)

I would like to suggest an additional feature. Is it possible to add a category selection that could link a calendar event to the category it relates to… then, people who wanted to see all of the music events or all of the art exhibits or any other categorical calendar could elect to see a specific collection of data by category.

  79. Heiremle 7 janvier 2009 à 14:49 Lier au commentaire

Hello Stephen Kastner, If you read my articles you know that it is already a feature and which will be effective in the next version. Your blog is beautiful. However, you should review the styles of tooltips in the calendar in the sidebar. Or at least put an “overflow: hidden” pending better ;)

    Hi
First of all thank you very much for this great job.

I am using event calender 6.5.2.1

My problem, If you enter the options section of event calender, you will see “jQuery Extrem Protection (checked = yes)” If i DO NOT check it the slideshow, latest comment, tag etc in my theme DOES NOT work. If I check it then slideshow and the others is working but this time the Calender does not show the appointments.
what could be the cause you think?
    Thanks

Wonderful plugin, thank you. Can you please tell me how to change the size of the text in the daily box of the large calendar? The text is quite large. I’ve scoured the source files and can’t find the right one to play with!

    Regards,

  85. Peterle 7 mars 2009 à 7:17 Lier au commentaire

I found an answer for font size. After searching more I discovered this from your blog:

    ——————-
As an immediate workaround, you might see if just reducing the font size would help. You can put the following in your CSS to reduce the font size by 25%:

    #wp-calendarLarge .event-block {
    font-size: 0.75em;
    }
    ———————

That works. Is it still the best way to adjust font size?

    Thank you

  86. Heiremle 10 mars 2009 à 18:02 Lier au commentaire

    Hello Peter,
Yes, this is the best way to adjust the font size. With the current official version ;) The next version will go through other ways, simpler, and to obtain results that will be much more personalized.

I love the events-calendar widget…so first, thank you for developing it! You’ve done a great job. I’m still pretty new with it, and I’ve been trying to figure out a few things to customize.
Is it possible to group events that are being displayed in the sidebar events list so that the date only displays once with all events for that date grouped below it?
My second question relates to the main (large) calendar. Is it possible to have multiple calendars for different categories of events? For example, I could have one calendar displaying on page A with events for Group A. On page B, I would display another calendar with events for Group B.
Again, thanks for the widget and thanks for any help you might be able to provide to me.

  90. Heiremle 8 avril 2009 à 16:33 Lier au commentaire

    Hello Justin,
    For the next version:
    - Together to the same date several events in a list is a good idea but will not immediately available.
    - The consultation of events in the same category can be done by filtering in the small calendar in widget. It will not be available yet for the large calendar. But I keep this idea because it seems to me excellent.
So these are two good ideas that I keep.
Thank you for your encouragements, however.

    Heirem,
I am having difficulty when using the events calendar widget to show a list of upcoming events.

it displays the event like this:

Sat Saturday/9/09: Paul Van Den Bogaard
    Sat Saturday/16/09: Coyote Bill Terry
    Fri Friday/22/09: Gabriel Surley
    Sat Saturday/23/09: James and Julz
    Sat Saturday/30/09: Clean Slate

I was hoping to have it display like:

Saturday 5/9/09: Paul Van Den Bogaard

    or

Saturday May 9th 2009: Paul Van Den Bogaard

    or

Sat May 9th: Paul Van Den Bogaard

Is this possible? I am using version: 6.5.2.1

The examples above can be seen at this website that I have built:

    Thanks

  92. Heiremle 5 mai 2009 à 0:50 Lier au commentaire

    Hello Al,
Yes it is possible, since it is one of the options of the plugin. As you can see in the file “ec_calendar.class.php” and function “displayEventList” This date format is determined by the option “dateFormatLarge“. Unfortunately the same option that determines the date format in the large calendar.

Thank you for the very useful, easy to use plugin. I am facing a problem with fetching all events. I created 3 events for (05/14) and (05/18) and (05/20) .
